Juliotter Garden Club held its annual plant sale on Saturday 20th May. This year the weather wasn't very friendly and there were slightly fewer sellers - but the sale was well attended and all the buyers and sellers seemed to go away happy. And the club funds got a boost. Juliotter Garden Club plant sale 21 May 2017

The North Devon and Cornwall Railway Society came to the Hall for their 2017 exhibition, previously held in Bude. The N gauge layout pictured here is of the "End to end" variety, very popular with modellers of branch lines. As can be seen, you don't necessarily need a lot of space for a layout! On Shrove Tuesday, 28th February 2017, the Hall and Otterham, St Juliot and Lesnewth Group of Churches got together for a combined fund-raiser. The Hall Committee held their monthly "Coffee +" (drinks, biscuits, chat and games) at the same time as the churches held their "Pop in for pancakes" (never previously held at the hall). With takings from second-hand books, bric-a-brac and a raffle added to what we took at the door, the event raised a little under £350, which has been split equally between the Hall and the churches. However there was a hitch and, at short notice, the event was moved to the Hall. This picture shows Robert after the service with the Churchwardens of all the churches.

WI Christmas Party On 10th December 2015 Marshgate WI held its annual Christmas Party in the Hall. The President welcomed everyone and invited June to give a brief talk about her recent visit to Denman where she had got "Christmas All Sewn Up". She proudly showed us the items she had made, and enthused about the whole experience, encouraging others to take any opportunity to go to the college. The serious business of the meeting then started with pass the parcel followed by other mind and body stretching games. Wendy had provided a spectacular cake to go with the cups of tea, and for those who like to indulge there were mince pies and other cakes as well. The raffle was drawn and everyone selected their Secret Santa gift, though after Linda's story no one ended with the parcel they had picked!

Who said pass the parcel is just for children?

The Boscastle Buoys entertained a hall full of people when Otterham & St Juliot Hall committee hosted the first Harvest Supper in the new Hall on 17th October. Jacket potatoes with various toppings followed by a mouth-watering section of desserts meant the 60 people present could sit back well-fed and enjoy the Buoys' special sound and laugh at the joking between songs. The Boscastle Buoys are constantly enlarging their repertoire while not forgetting old favourites. They are, rightly, proud to have contributed so much to the Hospice, and hope to boost their donations with their new CD. The Hall Committee Chairman, David Langley, thanked all who had contributed in any way to the evening which was in aid of Hall funds because there are still items needed and money must be set aside for future upkeep. On 30th June 2015 all the children of Otterham C P School came to the Hall to celebrate its completion. They ringed the Village Hall with a nice white ribbon then all cut their piece of the ribbon to officially open the new Hall - every piece was then dated and each child had a personal memento of the event. Pictured with Dave Langley, Chairman, and Helen Ward, Head Teacher is the last few to do the cutting. School children

School children The tape and children stretched round three sides of the Hall before it was cut - and this was the very end of it. After the cutting of the tape they all went in to the hall for well-earned refreshments.

On a sunny Friday evening, 19th June 2015, the Hall was host to the annual Strawberry Supper which this year was raising funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Strawberry Supper

Strawberry Supper It was a Pasty and Strawberry Supper and a total of 273 was raised - not at all bad for a small community. As it happens the Air Ambulance had been called to Marshgate earlier that day!

On Saturday, 13th June 2015, Otterham and St Juliot Hall opened its doors to anybody who was interested, or had helped in any way, to come and see the results of the hard work involved in achieving a new Hall. Members of the Committee provided a flow of refreshments right through the day, which seemed to be appreciated. Several people had been personally invited to be with us at about 12 noon so that the Chairman, David Langley, could say "Thank You" to all on behalf of the Committee. It was especially pleasing to be able to give Val Gill a small token of appreciation for the years of form filling and etc. that she did to get the grant from the Big Lottery. Earlier in the year she retired from the Committee and her position as Hall Secretary after moving away from North Cornwall. Thank you day

Thank you day There where messages of support received from Ann and Ken Clarke, Margaret Kemp and Rose Tamplyn - all past members of the committee who have moved away. The WI was able to show the entry for this year's Royal Cornwall Show where it had been awarded 2nd place, and the floral part of the display had won the 'Nan Collier Plate' for the highest marks [20 out of 20!]. The Short Mat Bowls club had a mat down and several visitors tried their hand at bowling; one person went home for his woods so he could make use of the quiet time to practice.

There was also some archive material and a remnant of the old hall. The children were kept amused with Mike Titchin's bouncy castle which fitted neatly at one end of the hall.

Visitors were enthusiastic about the new facilities with all areas being explored. The Committee felt its gesture of thanks had been well received.
